Client
A leading healthcare products manufacturing plant generated various wastes from chemical blending, reactor cleanouts and product testing. The facility’s liquid wastes were combined into a central treatment facility where a multi-step treatment process was performed and wastewater discharged under permit to a local POTW.
The Problem
The company had recently performed a significant upgrade of its wastewater treatment to accommodate expanded production and eliminate municipal surcharges. The upgrades included automated controls, new processing equipment and additional treatment technologies not previously employed. The existing internal operational staff and an additional fill-in staff would require significant training and on-going management oversight to successfully operate the new treatment facility. Moroever, operating it would divert the plant’s personnel and management into a non-core business activity.
The Solution
The facility contracted ProChem to assume operational responsibility for its wastewater processing. As part of the operational responsibility, ProChem provided trained technicians to operate and maintain the wastewater program 24/7. ProChem’s management staff also performs on-going training and management of the treatment personnel. ProChem’s treatment personnel coordinate all wastewater-related activities within the facility and serve as an additional technical resource for the client's EHS manager. In order to provide the client a turnkey solution, ProChem also provides all chemicals, replacement parts, safety supplies and other consumable items related to the operation of the wastewater facility.
The Result
All issues surrounding operation, monitoring and maintenance of the wastewater treatment system are addressed by ProChem personnel and no longer require the attention of the plant’s manufacturing employees and management. ProChem has partnered with this facility to win numerous environmental awards including “Most Improved Industry” and “Pollution Prevention Achievement.”
By providing all consumable supplies for the treatment system, ProChem has significantly reduced the quantity of purchase orders processed by the client and management time spent researching replacement parts, treatment chemicals, etc.
